Frequently Asked Questions - Bulk Beef
What will I get with a whole beef? Half beef?
Each option yields approximately 40% ground beef, 25% steaks, and 35% roasts. This varies as you get to choose what cuts you want. For example, if you don’t eat many roasts, you can choose
to get them ground into ground beef instead. That would up your proportion of ground beef and decrease the proportion of roasts you’d get.
Our half-beef averages 225 pounds. This is enough beef to fill a smaller chest freezer or whole stand-up freezer.
It’s perfect for moderately sized families.
Our whole beef averages 450 pounds and it is perfect for a big family or people who really, really like beef.
Why buy in bulk?
When you buy bulk beef, you get the security of mind knowing that you have a freezer full of beef to feed your family with. You’ll have all your favorite cuts at your fingertips!
It allows us to sustainably raise and sell our beef. With bulk beef, every part of the animal gets used and enjoyed. We know exactly how many to harvest for Padlock Premium Beef.
You can enjoy the beef knowing that it was raised in a humane and sustainable way while supporting a small, local business.
How does this work?
We will open for deposits on 10/10/2024. You’ll have the opportunity to reserve your beef at this time. After you place your deposit, you’ll get a cut sheet, where you will be able to choose how you would like your beef cut. You will return the cut sheet to us and we’ll get it to the butcher. It will be dry-aged for 14-21 days and then vacuum-sealed and flash-frozen for freshness. We will let you know as soon as it’s ready and arrange a time for you to pick it up.
How much will it cost?
The beef is priced per pound. The final price is an estimate because the amount of beef will vary slightly with each animal. The prices listed here are as close of an estimate as we can give you. The price per pound covers all processing and fees, so you will not have any additional costs beyond that.
A half beef will cost $8.50/pound, with a 40% deposit. We’ll invoice you for the remaining balance as soon as it’s ready for pickup and we
know exactly how much beef was harvested. The estimated final invoice will be $1147.50,
for an estimated total of $1912.50.
A whole beef will cost $8.50/pound, with a 40% deposit. We’ll invoice you for the remaining balance as soon as it’s ready for pickup and we know exactly how much beef was harvested. The estimated final invoice will be $2295 for an estimated total of $3825.
Why do I need to place a deposit?
Deposits let us know exactly how much beef to harvest. It allows us to sustainably plan our herd so we know which cattle to allocate there.
Is it refundable?
Unfortunately, the deposit is not refundable.
What can I expect with the beef?
All our beef is USDA-inspected, vacuum-sealed, and flash-frozen for freshness. Our ranching model focuses on quality, and we have consistently produced beef that grades at 98% choice and prime. All of Padlock Premium Beef is processed locally, so while it is USDA inspected, it is not quality-graded. However, we’re confident that it will meet your expectations for steakhouse-quality beef.
